Supreme Commander Seth

Overview

Supreme Commander Seth is a recurring character in the LOQO series, first appearing in LOQO I. He is the head of the Egyptian army and has command over the palace guards. A servant and close personal friend of the late Pharaoh, he now serves Opala in her rule over Egypt.

His name is based on the Egyptian God Seth, god of chaos, storms and the desert and was the usurper of his brothers throne.

LOQO I

Seth plays a small role in LOQO I, Jake is introduced to him early in the game after foiling the plot to abduct Opala. His background is told through others, mostly Opala and Farah. He can usually be found in the throne room sitting to the side of the royal throne. Once the player has given enough gifts to Opala, Seth will meet Jake and tell him that Opala is in the throne room and it is best that he waits for her to return (however the player should enter the throne room to witness a scene with Opala and progress the story). After Jake travels to Greece, Seth no longer plays much of a role in the game. If the player has chosen the Evil path, Opala will comment that off all the days to be attacked it happens to be the day that someone has called away all her palace guards (likely to be Seth).

If the player has chosen the Good Path and has found the hidden ending it will reveal that Seth is in fact an ally of Osira, as he frees her from prison and gives her a vial of monster essence. Thus setting into motion the events of LOQO II.

LOQO II

Seth returns in LOQO II, this time as a major villain and is central to the initial storyline of the game. It is revealed that Seth has staged a coup in Egypt forcing Opala and her mother Farah to flee, finding there way to Namaria. Strangely, Seth does appear in Namaria when Kai reaches Mount Dreadclaw, suggesting that Seth can freely travel back and forth. Here he merely oversees his minions as they uncover the Gauntlet of Nabonaga. After the various plot twists of LOQO II, the storyline returns to the matter of Seth and his rule over Egypt. Kai and his friends travel to Egypt and meet up with Gath'D and the resistance to overthrow Seth.

Episode 3 begins with the assault of Seths Palace, where Kai and his party will confront Seth while the resistance leads a revolt to draw out Seths army.

After defeating Seth, he will reveal the cause of his betrayal. Having been such a close friend of the late Pharaoh, Seth was angered by his transformation from a powerful military mind to a soft family man, believing that it made him (and by extension Egypt's defenses) weak. His view did not change when Opala took the throne, her loving and caring rule again seeming like a weakening of Egypt in the eyes of other nations. He favoured Osiras claim to the throne believing her iron rule and monster legions would make Egypt both feared and respected.

It is here that Opala and the party point out that Egypt was never once at risk under the Pharaohs or Opalas rule and other nations have only been made more loyal and trusting thanks to their policies. Opala even points out that the fact that the people are revolting is a clear sign that the people would gladly give their lives for Opala and Egypt. Seth finally sees the error of his ways and despite Opalas forgiveness, he asks that he be executed, as befitting a traitor, urging that it show strength and set an example.

The player is then asked to chose his fate:

  • To forgive Seth completely and allow him to serve as before. (+1 Good Path)
  • Spare his life but imprison him. (Neutral option)
  • Execute Seth: (+1 Evil Path)

Regardless of the players choice, Seth plays no further role in the story and Egypt returns to peaceful rule with Opala on the throne. Even if Seth is spared, either forgiven or imprisoned, he can be interacted with but only provides a quote on how he was wrong and that Opala was right.

Once Seth is dealt with, Kai and the party (believing that all loose ends are tied up) remain on hand in Egypt for a while as the main story continues.
