Overview
The Tower of Despair is a large structure of 101 floors located northeast of Greenfield Lands in southern Namaria. It can only be entered by members of the Guild of Heroes.
History & Current Role
The origins of the Tower of Despair are not clearly stated, although the layout of the building strongly suggests the use of powerful magic possibly dating it back to the construction of similar structures such as the Temple of Moon, Temple of Sun, and Tower of Illumi.
The tower itself has no set path for ascent, as staircases leading "up" from a particular floor may lead to a completely different position on a higher or lower floor, or even to a location on that same floor. Progress through the tower is determined by the number of staircases climbed, with each 10th staircase leading to a powerful enemy. After defeating a powerful enemy, a new set of floors is unlocked, although floors from previous sets may still be encountered during ascent. There are no "down" staircases, and the only way to exit the tower is by means of escape crystals (which appear as deactivated blue save crystals) located on every boss floor.
Currently, the Guild of Heroes uses the tower as a form of challenge for those wishing to test their strength. Mr. Fluffy, a talking Werewuffie, guards the entrance to the tower, allowing only those who have received a Marked Amulet (proof of guild membership) to enter.
